EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an experiential therapy.

EMDR works on the belief that when we experience difficulties or trauma, we store the experience in our memory.  Memories can be stored as emotions, physical sensations, images or negative beliefs and sometimes these memories can become very painful for people and really get in the way of daily life.

EMDR does not always mean talking through an experience in detail. It involves being guided to move your eyes or tap in specific ways while you recall the memory which helps your brain resume a natural healing process. This can be an effective way of seeing things from a new perpective and easing the symptoms you have been experiencing.

EMDR has been historically used to support relief from PTSD although we all experience trauma in many different ways. EMDR can be a way of working through anxiety, phobia's, traumatic grief, relationship difficulties or processing of distressing memories from the past.
